Discussion took place on XXXVII ABPI International Intellectual Property Congress in Rio de Janeiro
The dynamic reality of the online universe requires an increasingly strong and current debate on the functioning of market competition. A current example on the subject was the recent punishment applied by the European Commission to Google, of 2.42 billion euros, for understanding that the company abuses the dominant position in the search market favoring its own price comparison product. "In this case there are problems of both horizontal and vertical competition, impacting companies that do not compete directly with Google in the search market, but can compete with it in other segments. Is the discussion to what extent is that a legitimate attitude or is that an infringement? To what extent does Google not act as a gateway?", explains doctor in commercial law Ana Frazão.
To further deepen this discussion, the jurist participated on Tuesday (22) of the Intellectual Property panel and Vertical Restrictions to Competition in Online Platforms, at the XXXVII International Congress of Intellectual Property. The event promoted by the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association (ABPI) is the largest in Latin America on the subject and brings together about 700 participants, among industry experts, entrepreneurs, magistrates, consultants, lawyers, government authorities, and leaders of international entities such as the American Intellectual Property Association (AIPLA) and the Asociación Interamericana de la Propiedad Intellectual (ASIP).
